Snowshoes are the perfect way to stay above the snow line when out in the bush this winter. Snowshoes work by evenly distributing your weight into a larger surface area. It gives off the quality of "floatation". Traditionally, snowshoes are made with hard wood (usually white ash) and webbing made from hide, then fastened to the shoe with buckles. 

Modern snowshoes are typically made with aluminum or stainless steel. although many people prefer wooden snowshoes because they don't freeze. Modern snowshoes are shorter, narrower, and lighter. They are also much lighter and usually involve the use of crampons to avoid accidents.
